I'm seriously considering buying a bell skiver, but it's tough to pick among all the options even similar clones.. My main work is chrome tan and light veg tan under 6 oz, and I'm a small-volume user. I haven't found any local dealer so I'm open to shipping as long they have solid support for setup and troubleshooting.

I've seen that the Cobra NP-4, Consew DCS-S4/53, and Techsew SK-4 are popular choices and they're all around the $1200-$1400 mark. Would anyone here know which dealer among them offers the best remote support? Do these standard clones handle light veg tan well without marring the surface? Open to hear feedback and recommendations from members here. Thanks for the help!

Don't assume a "clone" means no support... sometimes dealers for clones are more responsive than obscure boutique makers. That said, Cobra's network is more visible, and many mention its warranty and service advantages. (Some threads compare Cobra vs Consew, noting Cobra has lifetime warranty in some cases.) As for handling chrome-tan and light veg tan, yes... just keep knife sharp, adjust gently. Don't overdo feed pressure.

Be careful with that light veg tan! Even the best bell skivers can mar the surface if they aren't perfectly tuned, especially if the leather has any stiffness.
For under 6 oz veg tan, you need to confirm that the machine comes with the correct presser foot and wheel for non lining leather, cause the standard foot can leave tracks.
All those clones (Cobra, Consew, Techsew) can handle light veg tan, but you'll likely need a nontoothed feed wheel and a smooth presser foot to prevent marring, which you might have to buy separately.
Ask the dealer if they will ship it presetup for your leather weights

In my network, I've found that Cobra and Techsew have the best remote support! They consistently offer reliable, lifetime technical support via phone or email, which is crucial since you don't have a local dealer. Any of these machines will handle your leather up to 6oz. Marring on veg tan is a common issue and is often fixed by polishing the presser foot and lightening the tension. It's more about fine-tuning the machine than the brand itself. Get the one with the best support reputation and you'll be set!
