As we make our leather projects, one of the larger challenges is finding leather suppliers with leather price being more moderate than high. Has anyone found good sources to purchase leather from? I know it might be difference suppliers for deerskin, Elk, Moose and Bison, than for other types of working leather. Please share if you have a favorite suppliers for your projects.

I often buy from Kentucky Leather and Hides. (KyL&H) The key I've found is to buy a "scrap bundle". Get them every year at the Fort Frederick Market Fair so I don't need to pay shipping (they are large and heavy) These have the side and end edges of the veg tanned hides, which often have more than enough leather for sheaths, drinking jacks, and cartridge boxes. Other than that I peruse the blanket trading areas at large events.

For common working leathers (like veg-tan, garment weights, and classic chrometan cowhide), most crafters start with and rely heavily on Tandy Leather. They have tons of physical locations, making it easy to see and feel the leather, and their prices are generally moderate.
Another excellent generalist is Maverick Leather Company. Maverick often sells sides and sometimes full hides that don't pass major automotive/upholstery QC, meaning you get very high quality leather at a discounted price due to minor cosmetic flaws.

Depends on where you're from. I suggest looking for a local one. You're not supporting a local business, but also, shipping is cheaper.
