Digital Pattern Sharing & Online Tutorials

With so many creators selling patterns and sharing tutorials online, learning leathercraft has never been easier. This is better for the leathercraft community because there is great access and skill growth from home. No need to attend classroom/workshop-based classes and fits your schedules, but, it's hard to verify quality because not all online patterns fit right or teach solid fundamentals. Also, not everyone learns the same way. Other will need side by side and coaching to learn faster.

What do you think is better, online or workshop-based classes?

I still prefer workshops. There's a different level of work done when you see others do and it the trainer show. It's the show and tell and coaching that comes with it. If you can self-correct, good for you, online classes might work.

I have been watching video tutorials online and it is very helpful. I do not have time for online classes, and the tutorials online allow me to learn anywhere and anytime.

+1 @midNight! I think online classes are still better because you will learn a lot of techniques that most creators are not sharing. You have to search and look for another tutorial which is very time consuming. Unlike with online classes, they guide and teach you step by step.

The answer is BOTH.

In-person training gives the teach and student the opportunity to interact in person, and the teacher then has the opportunity to spot and correct a slight error performed by the student that an online class rarely could accomplish. The error might not even be part of the planned class, but something on the side, spotted by the instructor, and thus the student got more for the money than planned.

Online tutorials can share techniques not known to the viewer, or answer questions more quickly. A student who has progressed beyond the basic classroom sessions must WAIT until the advanced leatherwork class is offered to gain the next level of information, BUT when online, the student learns at his or her own pace. ALSO the online class normally offers a resource where the student can return to the previously viewed class, and review what was previously learned, if they are not confident of their memory.
