For those of you who just started (or are even experienced), what made you decide to finally try leathercraft or leatherwork? Is this just a passion or you plan to monetize and turn this into business?

The funny thing is it started out by fixing a broken strap on my messenger bag. I realized that it is another hobby that I can really enjoy. How about you?

This will be a hobby for me, maybe make a holster or two, maybe a sheath for a knife. A new skill is always good.

My father used to do leather repairs. It’s more about heritage than profit but I wouldn’t mind selling a few pieces.

How I wish the skill was passed on by my ancestors. I guess Ill be the one doing so.

Agree, this is really enjoyable. There's something about the calm of doing the craft.

A new skill is always good to have. Maybe after this, there's another hobby to learn.

Been interested about leather works. Interested in learning something new. Probably make things to give out as gifts to family and friends.

I started that way, giving new works to friends and family. Then thought why not sell some or do customer work.

I love leather bags and I've spent a lot. Some were just expensive junk so I thought to myself, why not learn and make quality bags for my self.

I used to buy branded leather goods too and I agree. Not all expensive brands have quality. I think the most value I got for a leather bag is from Coach.

My granda, bless his soul, had a small workshop and whenever we visit, I always find him there. I tinkered and was curious. He showed how to do stuff, talked to me about leathercraft and woodworking. I didn;t really think about it much until now that I am older. Now I understand his dedication. I wish I stayed more and learned from him first-hand.

I think the peace and concentration gives us focus to improve the craft. Would've been a great way to learn from your grandfather.
