I've been eyeing an Adler 204-64 flatbed machine and trying to wrap my head around whether it's worth the investment. Specs are solid: it'll push through up to 5/8" of leather, walking foot, reverse stitch, and comes with all the extras (OEM table, clutch motor, speed reducer, bobbin winder, thread stand, even the manual). Seller says it's barely been used, under 200 hours, and is asking $2,850.

When I check online, new ones are floating around $4,500, so the math sort of makes sense. What I'm hung up on is whether that slow stitch control and clutch motor setup is still worth it in 2025, or if I'd be better off waiting for a servo-equipped rig. Anybody here running a 204-64 for leather work? Do you think $2,850 is fair, or is it too close to new price to make sense?

Solid price! Adler 204-64 are built to last. The fact that it comes with all the original equipment is a big plus. A clutch motor is powerful but it's difficult to control at slow speeds. It takes a lot of practice to get a good feel for it. A servo motor offers much better low-speed control but a speed reducer can make a clutch motor much more manageable.

The price seems fair, but if slow speed control is your top priority and you do not want to deal with the learning curve of a clutch motor, you may want to hold out for a machine with a servo motor.
