I bought one of those Amazon "possibles" bag kits for around $26.96. As it was part of a PRIME order I didn't get charged shipping.
The leather was rather good, chemical tan, but mine came in gray. I decided to buy it because I was curious, and wanted a new bag for my trade gun shooting. When the kit arrived, it had very sparse directions, and was akin to something I remembered making as a Cub Scout.
So with my leatherwork tools in hand, and a few bits of scrap leather, I set to work.
Here's what came, and what it was supposed to look like when done:
You will note that the strap is a three-piece affair, and the construction was to be by leather thong through pre-done, punched holes.
NAH, this might be ok for a stage prop, or a purse for Mom on Mother's Day as a gift from a juvenile, but my bag was going to hold tools and shooting supplies, and was going to be out in the woods. The pre-holed portions of the leather were trimmed. Welts were used in all the joints, and artificial sinew was used to sew the bag. Fiebing's medium brown was used as the dye.
The other problem was that the holes provided for the knot that would hold the bag closed were also pre-punched, and were off center, so a thin piece of leather in a traditional shape was added to the bag-flap as an applique, and the hole for the closure knot was then centered.
Here's what I had when the bag was done.
AND I used some of the same leather that was used in the heart-applique to install a small inner pocket inside the bag on the back of the bag:
OH and here's another shot of the finished bag with a standard ball point pen adjacent for scale.
It's not a large bag, but the kit did turn out a very serviceable bag. It would also be useable as a belt hunting pouch,
Or as a general purpose belt bag for something like Ren Fair.
