I got hold of one of those shooting bag kits from Amazon, to see how viable they were, or are they a poor leatherwork project for a Cub Scout?
So far, not great, but workable, although a bit small.
Here's the pieces for the kit, and mine did come in medium gray:
Here's what AMAZON shows a customer will have when the bag is fully assembled. Mine didn't come light brown, so mine will need some dying, to hopefully get it to a dark brown:
I won't be lacing with the leather thong, as that will not give protection from the weather. The bag is going to be used for shooting and hunting with my Pedersoli Trade Musket.
I will be stitching the leather, and using welts at the seams. I will provide a more in depth report here, as well as in the Shooting Accessories section of The Traditional Muzzleloading Forum when it's completed, including tools, dye, added hardware (if any), and if any additional leather was needed including what kind(s), and the reason for the addition(s). The leather in the kit isn't bad at all, so this should work, and the retail cost of the kit is a mere $26.96.
WISH ME LUCK !
