I spent a long time looking for a new wallet but nothing in the stores felt right. Even the expensive designer brands seemed like they were made too fast and lacked quality. Most of the shops I know sell basic items for tourists and they just feel cheap to me. I started watching videos of people making their own gear and I think I can do it too. My goal is to start this as a hobby so I can make nice gifts for my friends. I want to find some cheap leather to practice on before I buy the expensive stuff. It seems like a great way to relax and get exactly what I want. And I plan to get some basic tools online to get started without spending too much money.

What is the best thread size to use for a small card holder or a slim wallet?

It seems Etsy offers leather scraps at a lower price. I have checked other websites, but they are quite expensive.

My wife goes to a discount fabric store that also sells leather scraps. If I remember right it was 6 bucks a pound. And if you have a thrift/secondhand store nearby, you may find used leather products there that you can "deconstruct".

Most scrap leather bundles sold at craft stores are chrome tanned leather and are from bellys and other parts of the hide that are undesirable.
Amazon sells veg tanned leather in multiple weights for as little as 25-30 dollars.
