A little back story of the bag I just finished. I did a leather working presentation at a local museum in Gallipolis Ohio. They had a shooting pouch that had belonged to Colonel Robert Safford (1768–1863). He was a prominent pioneer and public servant in Gallia County, Ohio. Born on July 7, 1768, in Hardwick, Massachusetts, he was a member of Major Burnham’s party that arrived in the Ohio territory on June 8, 1790, and played a key role in clearing land and building blockhouses and log cabins on what is now the public square of Gallipolis. He was a close associate of Daniel Boone and the storyteller James Burford, with whom he trapped in 1792 near Adamsville. They also had a belt axe that Daniel Boone gave to Colonel Safford.
The pouch was in a very deteriorated condition. All I could do was photograph the pouch. After close examination of the photos, I realized it had a flower pattern stamped on it. This is my representation of how the bag might have looked while he used it.
