I've got a quick question for anyone out there who's pushed their Singer 4452 a bit when it comes to tougher materials, specifically leather.

I'm thinking about trying some leather projects, but I really don't want to push my machine too hard or mess anything up. So, I'm wondering what's the maximum thickness of leather you've successfully sewn on your Singer 4452?

also what kind of thread were you guys using (size, type)? And what needle size did you use for that?

I'm just trying to get a real world feel for its limits, beyond what the manual might say, or what someone's heard. Has anyone tried anything specific and found it just wouldn't go, or maybe surprised themselves with what it could handle?

Any insights or tips would be super appreciated before I dive in!

Thanks a bunch!

4452 can handle leather up to about 3 to 4 oz (1.2-1.6mm) comfortably, you have to use strong polyester thread or nylon in Tex 70 or 90, and leather needles sized 90/14 or 100/16

Yup correct, most folks use heavy-duty polyester or nylon thread in size 69 or 92, paired with leather needles size 90/14 or 100/16 for best results. Thicker leather or multiple layers might need slower stitching and extra care , but many are surprised how well the 4452 can manage with the right setup. Just avoid really thick hides or too many layers to keep your machine happy.

I've pushed my 4452 through about 3 to 4oz leather with good results, just used a leather needle, size 90/14, and heavy duty polyester thread

Think I've done up to about 2 oz (1.5 mm) without too much fuss. I used heavy polyester thread, around size 69 or 92, and leather needles in 90/14 or 100/16 depending on thickness. Anything much thicker and it struggles, and you risk skipped stitches or bending the needle

The Singer 4452 is capable of working with leather that's around 4-5 oz. Make sure to use a heavy-duty needle (either size 16/100 or 18/110) along with sturdy polyester thread (size 40 or 69). It's a good idea to test your settings on some scrap pieces before you dive in.
