I am looking at the Jupean 458 piece leather kit as a way to get started with this hobby. There are others but this one, I saw it posted online by a memebr on reddit.

It comes with a massive amount of supplies like stamps and hole punches and even a tool holder to keep everything organized. I found it online and it seems like a quick way to get every tool I could possibly need in one big box. But I am hesitant because having nearly 500 pieces in a single set makes me worry about the quality of the individual metal tools. I want to know if anyone here has bought this specific kit or something like it. It would be helpful to hear if the punches stay sharp and if the stamps actually leave a clean mark on the leather. I am trying to decide if this is a smart purchase or if I will just end up replacing half the items within a month. What do you think?

I started with a similar massive kit, and honestly it’s a bit of a trap.
while you get 458 pieces, you’ll probably only use about 10 of them regularly. The metal in these budget kits is usually mystery steel
the hole punches tend to dull or bend after a few uses, and the stamps can have rough edges that tear the leather fibers. you might be better off buying a few highquality basics (a good knife, a diamond awl, and some John James needles) instead of 400 okayish tools

I agree with @beachboyM4x! You'll just need to get the essential tools like a cutting tool, cutting mat, scratch awl, hole punch, stitching needles and thread, and leather cement. Just start with the basic and gradually add the tools you need in the future.

They are right! It is tempting to get a set but you won;t all be needing them right away. It won’t be practical, as you are still starting this hobby.
