my mom has a big new project, she's trying to tackle some absolutely enormous sisal carpets, and she needs the right machine.
the material is the main issue, it's super thick sisal carpet, up to 30mm! and these rugs are huge, like 400cm×600cm and bigger. the machine needs to be a beast just to move the carpet around.

I immediately thought of an industrial walking foot machine, but which one?

is the old Singer 7-33 still the undisputed champion for this kind of crazy heavy duty work? it needs the largest, strongest walking foot and the clearance to get this stuff under the needle.
years ago, I remember hearing these industrial machines (like the Singers) came with tons of optional attachments and conversions. is that true for the 7-33?
can you still find those accessories that would help with a job this massive? any tips on a machine that can handle this thickness and size are welcome. TIA!

You’ll want a carpet serger or binder built for rugs such as an overedge serger or a portable carpet binding machine, or use edge tape with adhesive plus a hidden hand stitch for finish on small mats. Are you trying to bind edges or join panels, so we can narrow the machine choice?

Singer is a good brand but if you are looking for modern heavy walking foot machines. I recommend getting a Juki or Adler. It has parts support and is also still in production.

Though the Singer 7-33 can handle thick thread, it was built for leather, canvas, and other heavy materials. But parts are very difficult to source.

I'm moving this thread to General Chit-chat as this is not leather work specific. But anyone with knowledge may help.
