I am finally ready to buy a good sewing machine for my leather hobby but I need something that can really handle thick stuff, maybe up to 10mm, because my old Singer 4423 just was not up to the job anymore.

I have enough budget and I am fine with a used or refurbished machine. And honestly, searching Google just made me more confused because it kept suggesting those home-style machines that are not truly heavy duty. For sewing thick leather, I really need to look at industrial-level walking foot machines like the Juki 1541 or a clone like the Cobra Class 26 or Cowboy 3200. I was told I should look for older, reliable models like a Singer 111 or Juki 563 on sites like Gumtree, coz leather workers say you can often find a used one with a servo motor for a decent price. Not sure what to do though.

Those are good brands. But if you can find a Singer 111 or Juki 563 that is still in good condition you go for it. You might just get a newer Juki it might be quite expensive but at least you still have a warranty.

For heavy duty ones, I always go for Singer for leatherworks. Of course you have to find the model that's best for the type of work you'll do.

I highly recommend stepping up to an industrial walking foot machine. What you need to look for is a machine that has a walking foot and a strong motor. Do not just focus on the brand but on those features that meet your needs.
