I just started fixing motorcycle gear and make leather tool rolls and pretty new to heavy-duty sewing. I got an old Brother DB2 and a Singer 29U-style patcher.
Tried 135x17 needles on them, but they don't fit right in the patcher. I saw a chart online, but it's hard to understand.

Can anyone tell me which needles work best? Thanks a lot!

Skip the charts, just remember: Brother DB2 = 135x16/17. Singer 29U = 29x3/29x4. Grab a pack of each off Amazon or eBay, and you're set. Way cheaper than trial-and-error with random needles.

Nice setup! I'm new to leatherwork too. I started making tool pouches in my garage here in California. I looked into the 29U-style patcher and found it usually takes 29x3 or 29x4 needles, not 135x17. That mix-up got me at first too.

What thread size are you using? I'm still figuring out what pairs best with thicker veg-tan. Happy to swap notes!
