Tips for getting started in leathercraft

I am moving from metalworking into leathercraft and I am looking for some solid advice on where to begin. It is easy to watch videos where everything looks perfect, but I want to avoid common mistakes like misaligned holes or sloppy cuts. I am very interested in making tool bags and holders for my shop, but I worry those might be too difficult for a first timer. I have a lot of respect for the material and I really do not want to waste good leather on a failed project. A knife or chisel sheath seems like a great way to practice the basics without jumping into something too complex like a professional bag. But I want to know if leather is more forgiving than metal when it comes to fixing a small error. And I would love to hear which projects you all found the most helpful when you were just starting out.

You can start from a simple sheath which is a smart move because it teaches you how to cut clean lines, punch straight holes and stitch evenly without risking a big sheet of expensive leather.

+1 @li'lpowh You can make tool bags later once you understand how leather bends and holds its shape. Many beginners start with coasters, belts or small pouches because they are easier and use less leather. Good luck!
