I got a Saddlers Harness Needles and the size is 17 (2/0). I want an awl blade matching this needle so the hole is just big enough for the needle and thread to pass through without tearing my leather. What's the best size? Any of you got the same situation and what do yu use?

For a size 17 (2/0) needle, you'll want an awl blade around 1.5mm to 2mm, it'll give you the perfect hole size without tearing the leather

For size 17 I agree with them, 1.5mm to 2mm is ok. I'll give it 1.8mm if you want a specific size lol. If it's too small you're gonna struggle pushing the needle and if it's too big, the hole will be sloppy. As for me I go with 1.8mm.

This. 1.8 mm is my suggestion as well. You can go consider the range and take the median.
