Looking for hand sewing machines that are easy to use and for good stitches. I got a cheap one before from an online shop and it broke just after a week or so! this time, just give me recos. maybe you're using one now>?

it means that a hand sewing machine is a bad idea. for leather it's better to use Singer 4423 or Brother ST371HD

If you want something that won't fall apart after a week, avoid the cheap stuff and explore options like the Singer Handheld, it's reliable and does a good job on most projects. They're portable ones like the Janome 2212 also

Um, pardon me, as someone who only does actual stitching by hand I have to ask,,,, what is a "hand sewing machine"? Seems like either an oxymoron or something used to sew one's hand? Curiosity has gotten the better of me here.

I think what the OP means are the small sewing machines? Handheld probably.

Never heard of or seen such a thing.

Sorry, to me hand sewing means using your hands to do the work. If a machine is involved doing the stitching it isn't hand sewing anymore.

The issue is that there are several "old school" leather crafters on here (myself included) that use our own fingers to punch holes and stitch leather together with a needle and thread. THAT is what we call hand sewing. And we have been doing just that for a very long time.

There isn't any problem with using a sewing machine to make your stitches. But in essence, that isn't hand sewing. Using your hands to move leather through a machine doesn't make it hand sewing. That is machine sewing because...well there is a machine involved.

So perhaps all the questions raised about sewing machines should be moved into a "Machine Sewing" sub-topic.

I got one of those $100 dollar Chinese hand crank sewing machines it might just be me but I can't make it work worth a crap sews about 2 Inches a breaks the thread. I would definitely not suggest one of those
