I found a machine near me for $400, recently serviced, with a walking foot. Can it slow from 5,000 stitches per minute, handle leather, and what thickness? Or stick with an LS-1?

For $400, this walking foot can manage light to medium leather, but it probably won't consistently reach the full 5,000 stitches per minute. The thickness you'll be able to work with really hinges on the power of the motor

Will swapping in a servo motor give me better low-speed control for leather work?
