I've got my mum's old Singer 31-15 with me but I'm working with leather and I dont know if it can handle it. So that's why I'm here, can it be used for leather work?, I hope it wont cause skipped stitches? and also pardon my so many questions, do I need special leather needles, heavier thread, or any particular setup to make it work smoothly?
Thanks a lot in advance!

The 31-15 can handle light leather fine if it's tuned up, but it's not really a heavy-duty leather machine. You'll want leather needles and bonded nylon thread at minimum. Don't expect it to love thick veg-tan though.

Don't forget to keep the machine well oiled and making sure the tension is set correctly will also help it run smoother on tougher material. A walking foot machine best fits if you are planning to sew thicker belts or saddlery weight leather.
