I Just got a text from Weaver Leathercraft, their 303 machine's gonna be on sale for Black Friday! Looks like it's right up my alley for the stuff I make (woohoo!)
Anyone here got one of these bad boys already? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I'm itching to start making belts, guitar straps, and knife sheaths too.

Love it! like all sewing machines, it took a bit to learn. it works great on my projects! Just watch out for the metal bits when you tilt it back so they don't fall out.

I've tried machine stitch using my old Singer brand Spartan model. The machine works fine on cloth, but is much too fine for leather, so I will continue to use hand stitching, with an awl, glover's needles, and etc. The machine stitching ended up giving me a perforated line in the leather, instead of making a seam. Damaged the leather instead of joining the pieces, and I had the machine set on widest possible stitch distance.

Yeah, that makes sense. Machines usually aren't great with leather. Hand-stitching with the right tools is the best way to get those clean, strong seams for sure.
