I am new to all things leathercraft and I am hoping to start somewhere, like maybe a belt or a guitar strap? Appreciate any leads!

Welcome to the craft! For free patterns, check out Makesupply, Elktracks studio, and Tandy Leather! They have a large collection of templates and practical project ideas! But I second starting with belts and straps. It's less about a complex pattern and more about getting your dimensions right. You'd also mostly need a straightedge and a good craft knife! Have fun, and feel free to share photos of your creations!

I highly recommend using a good quality vegetable tanned leather. It is easier to cut and finish clean. You can also use simple tools like a burnisher and beveler. Once you get the hang of it, you can add more tools as you go.

You might want to check gold bark leather. You can learn a lot since it focuses on basics and the skills you need to learn as a beginner.
